In 2006, the Bridging Relationships Across Interprofessional Domains (BRAID) project was launched to provide a systematic, comprehensive approach to interprofessional medical education and patient-centered practice in New Brunswick. The Health Canada-funded initiative had representation from medical education (Dalhousie University Medical School), academic programs in nursing and health sciences (University of New Brunswick), a regional health authority (Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation), and a community college offering practical nursing and allied health programs at a diploma level (New Brunswick Community College).
After the project finished, the four collaborating institutions were interested in creating more opportunities for formal interprofessional collaboration and education. In the spirit of the original BRAID goals, and with a focus on celebrating our local health research leaders - established and up-and-coming - the first Interprofessional Health Research (iHR) Day was held in March 2009. Since that inaugural event, iHR Day has celebrated our institutions' health research success each spring.
Much has changed in the ten years since our first iHR Day. To reflect the growth we have seen in our health research environment, iHR Day also now expanded to engage our researchers and the community we call home.
